Culture into campus

In 2025, the Chinese Dragon Culture Heritage Association (CDCHA) delivered a large-scale cultural outreach program across 11 elementary schools in Cape Breton, bringing Chinese dance, martial arts, and four world-class Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) traditions directly into local classrooms.

Through interactive performances and hands-on workshops, students explored traditional Chinese dance, martial arts, calligraphy, paper cutting, shadow puppetry, and movable-type printing. Several schools hosted the program over two to three consecutive days due to high student participation, allowing deeper engagement and age-appropriate learning experiences.

This initiative reached  4,000 of students, fostering cultural curiosity, creativity, and cross-cultural understanding, while supporting inclusive arts education within the school community.

Participating schools included

Shipyard Elementary School, Robin Foote Elementary School, Ocean View Education Centre, Cusack Elementary School, Brookland Elementary School, Ferrisview Elementary School, Bras d'Or Elementary School, Jubilee Elementary School, Riverside Elementary School, Greenfield Elementary School, and Tompkins Memorial Elementary School.
